No, this isn’t turning into RLSLOGMUSIC, but amongst year old compilations, rereleases of 8 year old albums, and various other musical hijinks, one of the most anticipated albums of the summer almost slipped through the cracks, the new studio release of Beck. I’ve been a huge Beck fan for years, and even though he was one of the most disappointing live acts I’ve ever seen (saw him open for the Police last year, and he just tanked), I’m still hoping there’s a lot of quality out of this disc. It’s already recieved very favorable reviews and was produced by one of the hottest producers going today, Danger Mouse.
Beck Hansen (born Bek David Campbell, July 8, 1970) is an American musician, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known by the stage name Beck. With his pop art collage of musical styles, oblique and ironic lyrics, and post-modern arrangements incorporating samples, drum machines, live instrumentation and sound effects, Beck has been hailed by critics and the public throughout his musical career as being amongst the most idiosyncratic artists of 1990s and 2000s alternative rock.
Beck’s new album Modern Guilt, produced with Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton, will be released July 8, 2008.
The new album contains 10 new songs, and with the exception of last year’s Grammy-nominated, digital-only single “Timebomb”, Modern Guilt is the first new material Beck has written since the prolific stretch that produced 2005’s platinum Guero and 2006’s universally acclaimed The Information.
