MTD brings this release from underground hip hop group Doomtree a few days before it reaches store shelves. Upon a first listen to this, I am REALLY impressed, especially considering I hadn’t really heard anything from them before. Combines a lot of earnestness of underground hip hop with better than average production and a feeling of fun. Currently on tour with alternative rock crossover success Flobots, there’s a lot to like here.
Doomtree is a hip hop collective based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Members of Doomtree bring various bases of knowledge plus musical backgrounds together to create alternative-influenced rap plus hip hop music. Their main influence is punk and their lyrics are frequently introspective and self-degrading. They often do shows with fellow Minnesota hip-hop label Rhymesayers Entertainment. Emcees perform solo or with one another, each contributing a different approach to their music. Doomtree’s debut album as a group is set for release on 7/29/08.
