SAPHiRE released this Drama/Music last night. Apparently the movie has been around since 2004, but was released again in a limited edition in 2006. It seems to have slipped under the radar, but now we first get to enjoy watch it in DVDRip quality. There aren’t any big names here so this would surely scare some of you off, plus it never gave the impression of a big production anyway, but if it won’t kill you it will only make you stronger. Honestly though, I sometimes find myself enjoying specifically the small, indie films such as this plus it’s hard to label this one a bad movie without having seen it first.
Synopsis: Arrested for violating his parole, guitar playing car thief Wesley Benfield (William Lee Scott, The Butterfly Effect, Identity) is sentenced to a halfway house in the middle of the Bible belt. Ned Sears (Fred Willard), who runs the house, is an eccentric zealot currently forming his own hymn playing band and recruits young felons based on their musical talents. Wesley and the motley assembly of lawbreakers are confined and condemned to playing “church music” to retirees and grade schoolers. Then Wesley meets Vernon (Lucas Black, Sling Blade, All the Pretty Horses, Cold Mountain), an autistic savant whose rocking blues piano playing electrifies them all. Vernon provides the band with the spark it needs, plus together, with singer Shanita Scott (Niki Crawford), they form the red hot Killer Diller Blues Band.
