HOT, HOT, HOT off the press! Release group XXL has brought us Canadian songstress Nelly Furtado’s special edition of her debut album Whoa, Nelly! Pretty proud of this one, being a Canuck myself (Nelly comes from a Portuguese background just fyi). Nelly came onto the pop scene as a very innocent down to earth singer with a powerful voice plus some O.K. tunes. Now she is a ‘Promiscuous Girl’, lol. At any rate, this album bring me back a few years, in ‘00 when pop was ‘in’ around my town. May I suggest ‘Turn Off The Light’ plus ‘I’m Like A Bird’? Her obvious top singles from this album. Enjoy!
Whoa, Nelly! is the debut album by Canadian singer-songwriter Nelly Furtado, released by DreamWorks Records in North America on October 24, 2000. Slant magazine called it “a delightful plus refreshing antidote to the army of ‘pop princesses’ and rap-metal bands that had taken over popular music at the turn of the millennium.” The sound of the album was strongly influenced by musicians who had traversed cultures plus “the challenge of making heartfelt, emotional music that’s upbeat plus hopeful.” One of the songs on this album, “Scared of You” has portions of the song in Portuguese, while “Onde Estás” is entirely in Portuguese, the official language of Portugal, which reflects Furtado’s Portuguese heritage.
